San Juan de Colón is the capital of the Ayacucho municipality, in the northern part of Táchira state, and one of the most traditional cities of the Venezuelan Andes. The municipality was born on October 1, 1881, within the Táchira section of the then Gran Estado Los Andes, and from its beginnings San Juan de Colón established itself as the administrative and commercial center of the region.
