Michelena is the capital of the municipality of the same name, in the central-northern part of Táchira state, an Andean town founded in 1849 by the priest and doctor José Amando Pérez. Set at about 1,200 meters above sea level, amid a mountainous landscape of temperate climate, Michelena preserves the charm and serenity of the traditional towns of the Venezuelan Andes. Birthplace of historical figures and of deep religious and cultural roots, this destination has always been a point of reference and connection within the life of northern Táchira.
