Michelena is the capital of the municipality of the same name, in the central-northern part of Táchira state, an Andean town founded in 1849 by the priest and doctor José Amando Pérez. Set at about 1,200 meters above sea level, amid a mountainous landscape of temperate climate, Michelena preserves the charm and serenity of the traditional towns of the Venezuelan Andes.
