Description
Quíbor is a city with a deep ancestral legacy, capital of the Jiménez municipality in the heart of Lara State. Its history dates back to pre-Hispanic times, when the Achagua people developed advanced irrigation systems in these semi-arid lands; its official foundation as Nuestra Señora de Altagracia de Quíbor occurred in June 1620. Recognized as the Artisan City of Venezuela, Quíbor preserves a valuable cultural and indigenous heritage, kept in its Francisco Tamayo Anthropological Museum, and remains an essential connection point among the roads of central Lara.
The Jiménez municipality has a surface area of 768 km² and recorded a population of 110,872 inhabitants according to the 2011 census, of which the city of Quíbor concentrates about 110,536 inhabitants (INE, "2011 Census", accessed 2026).
