Caucagua is a city in Miranda state, capital of the Acevedo municipality and the heart of the Barlovento subregion. Its name, of Cumanagoto origin, evokes the idea of "impetuous waters," and its history dates back to the late 17th century, when it was born as Valle de Araguata before being refounded under the name Caucagua in 1752. Set at a crossroads between Caracas, the east of the country and the rest of Miranda, Caucagua has for centuries been a natural connection point and a highly fertile agricultural hub, renowned for the cacao production that defines the entire Barlovento area.
