Filas de Mariche is one of the parishes that make up the Sucre municipality of Miranda state, located right in the Cordillera de la Costa, east of Petare and within the metropolitan area of Caracas. Its name joins two ideas: "fila," a geographic term for a chain or ridge of hills, and "Mariche," in honor of the ancient Mariche indigenous people, of the Carib family, whose chief was the legendary Tamanaco. A land of fertile soils used since colonial times as estates, Filas de Mariche preserves a strong historical and community identity, and today serves as a connection point between the highlands of eastern Caracas and the rest of Miranda.
