Guarenas
Guarenas, Miranda, Venezuela
Description
Guarenas is a city with a hardworking spirit and deep colonial roots, the capital of the Plaza municipality in Miranda state. Founded in 1621 as Nuestra Señora de Copacabana de los Guarenas, it preserves in its name and its people the indigenous trace of the word "huerena", meaning prairie or savanna. Over the years it merged almost completely with its neighbor Guatire, forming the vibrant Guarenas-Guatire conurbation, one of the main residential and commercial connection hubs between Caracas and the east of the country.
According to recent figures, the Plaza municipality has a surface area of about 180 km² and an estimated population of around 309,987 people (Wikipedia, "Municipio Plaza", accessed 2026). Its economy revolves around commerce, industry, and services, favored by its proximity to the capital and its role as a bedroom community and activity hub for thousands of families.
