Yaritagua
Yaritagua, Yaracuy, Venezuela
Description
Yaritagua is a city of colonial roots and a hardworking character, capital of the Peña Municipality in Yaracuy state. Founded in 1699, it grew to the rhythm of its vast sugar cane fields and the sugar mills that shaped its identity for centuries. Today, very close to neighboring Barquisimeto, Yaritagua preserves its historic center, its squares, and its Casa de la Cultura, and remains a natural connection point between Yaracuy state and the dynamic central-western region of Venezuela.
Yaritagua holds a population of around 136,081 inhabitants, spread across a surface area of roughly 510 km², making it the second most populous area in Yaracuy state (Wikipedia, "Yaritagua", accessed 2026). Its economy was historically sustained by the cultivation and processing of sugar cane, and today it relies on commerce, services, and local agriculture.
