Villa Tamare
Villa Tamare, Zulia, Venezuela
Description
Villa Tamare is the populated heart of the Tamare parish, in the Mara municipality of Zulia state, a settlement with humble, deep roots that grew out of the old La Rosita area. Its name comes from the "tamare" shrubs that once covered these lands, and over time, thanks to the drive of its residents, Villa Tamare established itself as the center of parish life. Today it works as a connection point for the surrounding agricultural communities, a warm town where closeness among neighbors remains part of its Zulia identity.
Villa Tamare is the main locality of the Tamare parish, which spans about 26 km² and gathers around 19,317 inhabitants, according to municipal figures recorded in the official municipal profile (Wikipedia, "Municipio Mara", accessed 2026). The town sits at roughly 49 meters above sea level, east of Concepción and of San Rafael de El Moján (Gelvez, "Tamare, municipio Mara", accessed 2026). The Mara municipality, with more than 251,044 inhabitants, lives off agriculture —watermelon, melon and grapes— fishing, and mining and oil activity, which keeps the whole area's economy active.
