Santa Cruz de Mara is a town full of Zulian identity, located in the south of the Mara municipality, in Zulia state, and capital of the Ricaurte parish. The lands of the Mara municipality were originally inhabited by the Wayuu and Añú peoples, the latter settled in stilt houses near the mouth of the Limón river.
