Tacarigua de Mamporal is a town in the fertile Barlovento region of Miranda state, whose name evokes the balsa tree that grew abundantly in these valleys, according to the Carib word of its early inhabitants. Founded in 1764 by the Castellanos family on the former Fundo Tacarigua, it was once an indigenous passage and, during the war of independence, a land of haciendas that supported the republican cause; the heroine Eulalia Ramos Sánchez was born here.
