Description
Punto Fijo is the most dynamic city on the Paraguaná peninsula and a name deeply tied to Venezuela's oil industry. Although it has no formal founding charter, its establishment as a city is commemorated on February 27, 1970, when the administrative board of the then Carirubana district took office. Capital of the Carirubana municipality in Falcón state, it grew in the heat of oil refining and consolidated itself as a major commercial center in the country's west. Known as the city of wind for its constant breezes, Punto Fijo combines its industrial energy with the role of gateway and connection point for all of Paraguaná.
