Punta Cardón
Punta Cardón, Falcón, Venezuela
Description
Punta Cardón is one of the oldest sectors of the Paraguaná peninsula, with even more years since its founding than neighboring Punto Fijo. Set on the coast of Falcón state, within the Carirubana municipality and with about 25 kilometers of shoreline, this historic fishing town keeps its devotion to Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, whose first chapel was built in 1904. Punta Cardón combines that seafaring heritage with a strong industrial component, which has made it a reference and connection point within the dynamic life of Paraguaná, between the Caribbean Sea and the area's great complexes.
According to the 2021 census, Punta Cardón has around 58,926 inhabitants over an area of roughly 114 square kilometers. Its economy joins the lifelong artisanal fishing with the activity of the Cardón refinery, part of the Paraguaná Refining Center, along with the free trade zone, the international passenger terminal and the shopping centers that energize the whole peninsula (Wikipedia, «Punta Cardón», accessed 2026).
