Palavecino
Palavecino, Lara, Venezuela
Description
Palavecino is one of the most prosperous and dynamic municipalities in Lara State, with the city of Cabudare as its capital. Founded on January 27, 1828, it bears its name in honor of Cristóbal Palavecino, a military officer born in Cabudare and a prominent Lara hero who gave his life in the struggle for Venezuela's independence. Set in the Turbio River valley and very close to Barquisimeto, Palavecino has established itself as an important commercial, residential and service connection point within the central-western region of the country.
The Palavecino municipality covers an area of 440 km² and is divided into three parishes: Cabudare, José Gregorio Bastidas and Agua Viva. Its population exceeds 174,000 inhabitants according to the 2011 census, representing about 9.8% of the total of Lara State, a figure that has continued to grow steadily with the urban development of the Cabudare corridor (INE, "2011 Census", accessed 2026; Wikipedia, "Municipio Palavecino", accessed 2026).
