Morón
Morón, Carabobo, Venezuela
Description
Morón is a city with a strong industrial imprint in the north of Carabobo state, capital of the Juan José Mora municipality and one of the most important productive hubs on Venezuela's central coast. Its name, of indigenous Carib origin associated with the dark waters of the area, belongs to a town that took a decisive turn in the mid-20th century: from a farming town it became an urban-industrial complex with the arrival of the El Palito Refinery, the Planta Centro thermoelectric plant and the petrochemical complex. That transformation made Morón a strategic connection point between industry, the port and the routes linking the center and west of the country.
Morón saw accelerated growth throughout the 20th century, going from just over a thousand inhabitants in 1950 to around 73,023 according to the 2011 national census. Its economy revolves around the area's large industry —refining, power generation and petrochemicals—, complemented by the commerce and services that sustain its working population (Wikipedia, «Morón (Venezuela)», accessed 2026).
