La Cumaca
La Cumaca, Carabobo, Venezuela
Description
La Cumaca is a town of deep historical roots nestled at the foot of the southern slope of the Coastal Range, in the northern part of the San Diego municipality in Carabobo state, very close to Lake Valencia. Its name comes from an African word adopted by the ethnic groups of the Carib family to designate the ceiba tree, whose trunks were used to make the drum called «cumaca». The area holds traces of Arawak and Carib indigenous communities that inhabited it more than a millennium ago, as well as petroglyphs and megalithic monuments that bear witness to that ancestral past. Surrounded by pools, waterfalls and old orange and coffee estates, La Cumaca keeps a serene charm and a role as a natural and cultural refuge within the Carabobo region.
Today La Cumaca remains connected with the rest of Venezuela and with the country's rhythm, preserving its character as a peaceful town near Valencia.
