Higuerote
Higuerote, Miranda, Venezuela
Description
Higuerote is a coastal city with a seafaring air and Caribbean joy, capital of the Brión municipality and one of the great tourist landmarks of the Barlovento region in Miranda state. Its name recalls the chief Igoroto, who led the indigenous peoples of the area, and its history is intertwined with the beaches, lagoons, and natural channels that surround it. Since the mid-20th century, with the Ciudad Balneario project, Higuerote established itself as a tourist and commercial connection point between the Barlovento coastline and the center of the country.
The Brión municipality, whose capital is Higuerote, covers a surface area of about 531 km² and has a population of around 62,940 inhabitants according to the 2023 census (Wikipedia, "Municipio Brión", accessed 2026). Its economy revolves around tourism, fishing, and commerce, driven by its beaches, marinas, and the cacao-growing and cultural tradition of Barlovento.
