San Juan de Colón, known simply as Colón, is the capital of the Ayacucho municipality, in the northwest of Táchira state, and one of the most important cities in this Andean region. Founded in 1884, this city of temperate climate and tree-lined streets is popularly called "the City of Palms" for the many palm trees that adorn its landscape. As the third most populated city in Táchira, Colón has historically been a dynamic agricultural, commercial and service hub that organizes life across the entire northern part of the state and connects it with the rest of the Andean region.
