Betijoque is an Andean town with deep historical roots, located in Trujillo state and the capital of the Rafael Rangel municipality. Its origins date back to 1709, when it was founded under the name San Juan Bautista de Betijoque, and ever since it has been a cultural reference and a meeting point for the communities of the state's lower zone. Its warm climate, its welcoming people and its agricultural tradition have forged a serene, hardworking identity that still sets Betijoque apart within the Trujillo region.
The Rafael Rangel municipality, whose capital is Betijoque, recorded a population of 22,153 inhabitants according to the 2011 census (Wikipedia, «Municipio Rafael Rangel», accessed 2026). Located at about 565 meters above sea level and with an average annual temperature near 25 °C, its economy relies on farming and livestock activity and local trade, which bring daily life to its streets and hamlets.
