Description
Pampán is a municipality in the center of Trujillo state, in the Venezuelan Andes, whose history is interwoven with the very origins of the region: in 1565 the city of Trujillo was temporarily settled here under the name "Trujillo de Medellín," and the town was formally founded on April 19, 1653. It was also on lands of the Pampán municipality, in the village of Santa Ana, that one of the most memorable episodes of independence took place: the embrace of Bolívar and Morillo, on November 26, 1820, after the signing of the Treaty of Armistice and Regularization of War. All of this makes Pampán a place of deep historical value and a connection point within Trujillo.
The Pampán municipality covers an approximate area of 431 square kilometers and, according to the 2001 census, had a population close to 52,510 inhabitants spread across its four parishes: Pampán, Flor de Patria, La Paz and Santa Ana.
