Nueva Bolivia is a thriving and highly dynamic city, the capital of the Tulio Febres Cordero Municipality, in the far north of Mérida State. Set in the area south of Lake Maracaibo and very close to the Zulia town of Caja Seca, Nueva Bolivia has established itself as an important commercial and service center for the entire Pan-American region. Its character is defined by the constant movement of people and goods, the result of its privileged geographic position. For this reason, Nueva Bolivia plays an essential role as a connection point between the Andes, the plains and western Venezuela.
The Tulio Febres Cordero Municipality, whose capital is Nueva Bolivia, spans an area of 787 km² and exceeded 41,185 inhabitants by 2020; the city of Nueva Bolivia itself has a residential population of around 25,000 inhabitants (Wikipedia, «Nueva Bolivia», accessed 2026). Located at about 70 meters above sea level, its economy is based on commerce, agriculture and livestock typical of the fertile south of the lake, with intense transit activity due to its proximity to Zulia.
