Muyapa is a humble riverside locality that forms part of the Independencia parish, near Palmarito, within the Tulio Febres Cordero Municipality of Mérida State. Located in the area south of Lake Maracaibo, it shares with this region the lakeside, agricultural identity that has shaped the life of its communities, as well as the warmth of its people. Its name, of Indigenous origin, reflects the ancestral roots of these Mérida lowlands. Owing to its position within the river and Pan-American axis, Muyapa naturally serves as a link between Palmarito and the neighboring towns of the municipality.
