Los Corales is one of the most emblematic residential areas of Caraballeda, in La Guaira state (formerly Vargas state), located in the eastern part of the central coast. For decades it was synonymous with life by the Caribbean Sea, with residential buildings, wide avenues and a community deeply connected to the coast. Its name was forever etched into the country's memory after the Vargas tragedy of December 1999, when it was one of the hardest-hit areas; ever since, Los Corales has also been a symbol of resilience and reconstruction, remaining a point of reference and connection within the region.
Los Corales spans some 84.3 hectares in Caraballeda, an area documented precisely because of the impact of the 1999 landslide, when the entire neighborhood was buried under mud dragged down from the slopes of the Ávila (Wikipedia, "Tragedia de Vargas", accessed 2026). Today much of the area has been recovered and remains an inhabited sector of the La Guaira coast.
