Macuto
Macuto, La Guaira, Venezuela
Description
Macuto is one of the most beloved names on Venezuela's central coast. Located in La Guaira state (formerly Vargas state), between the Caribbean Sea and the Waraira Repano, this parish keeps a charm that blends history, sea breeze and collective memory. Its name honors Guaicamacuto, the great warrior who led the Carib tribes that inhabited this stretch of coast, and although the colonizers christened it San Bartolomé de Macuto, the people preferred to keep it simply as Macuto. Its historic seafront promenade made it, as early as the 20th century, one of the country's most cherished seaside towns.
Macuto is a parish of about 32 square kilometers that, according to available demographic data, has around 21,506 inhabitants. Founded on August 24, 1740 over the old village of Guaicamacuto, it experienced its greatest splendor as a tourist destination in the early 1920s, when its famous baths and iconic seafront hotels were inaugurated (Wikipedia, "Macuto (Venezuela)", accessed 2026).
