Description
Boconó is one of the most beloved towns in the Venezuelan Andes, affectionately known as the "Garden of Venezuela", a nickname given to it by Simón Bolívar in 1813 when he was struck by its natural beauty. The capital of the municipality of the same name in Trujillo state and founded in 1560 on lands inhabited by the indigenous Cuica people, Boconó preserves a mountainous, fertile and artisanal identity, with streets full of tradition, crops on its slopes and a culture that makes it a true meeting point of the Andean Trujillo.
The Boconó municipality is the largest in the state, with about 1,365 km², and had an estimated population of 100,240 inhabitants according to INE projections for 2015 (Wikipedia, «Municipio Boconó», accessed 2026). Its economy is based on highland agriculture —coffee, vegetables and fruit—, handicrafts and a growing tourism drawn by its landscapes, its climate and its cultural richness.
