Bailadores is one of the most beloved towns in the Venezuelan Andes, capital of the Rivas Dávila municipality, in the far western part of Mérida state. Founded on September 14, 1601, it preserves a history dating back to colonial times, when it was part of the domains of the ancient Canton of La Grita. Nestled in the beautiful valley of the Mocotíes River and surrounded by páramos, Bailadores captivates visitors with its cool climate, its mountain landscapes and its rich cultural and religious tradition. Its location, on one of the busiest Andean routes, has established it as a connection and meeting point within the region.
The Rivas Dávila municipality covers an area of 187 km² and, according to the National Institute of Statistics, had a population of around 25,254 inhabitants in 2022 (Wikipedia, «Municipio Rivas Dávila», accessed 2026). A large part of its territory is protected within the Páramos del Batallón and La Negra National Park, which enhances its natural value; high-altitude agriculture and tourism, drawn by the páramo and the famous valley of flowers, sustain the area's economic life.
