Turmero
Turmero, Aragua, Venezuela
Description
Turmero is one of those Aragua cities that has managed to grow without losing its warm, big-town character. Founded on November 27, 1620 around the Church of Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria, it is today the capital of the Santiago Mariño municipality and part of the Maracay metropolitan area, just over a hundred kilometers from Caracas. Set in the heart of the central valley, between the green of Pico El Cenizo and Cerro El Picacho, Turmero keeps the warmth of its people and the energy of a natural crossroads between the state capital and the rest of the region, a vocation as a connection point that has defined it for centuries.
According to 2023 estimates, Turmero is home to around 224,880 inhabitants across roughly 36 square kilometers, making it one of the most densely populated localities in Aragua. Its economy combines commerce, services and the agricultural activity of the valley, supported by its closeness to Maracay and a lively urban life that keeps the whole community active (Wikipedia, «Turmero», accessed 2026).
