Description
Porlamar is the commercial and urban heart of Margarita Island, capital of the Mariño municipality and the main city of Nueva Esparta state. Founded on March 26, 1536 by friar Francisco de Villacorta, it has borne names such as San Pedro Mártir, Villa del Espíritu Santo and Pueblo de La Mar throughout its history, until it consolidated as the great center of activity on the island.
