El Tigrito
El Tigrito, Anzoátegui, Venezuela
Description
El Tigrito, officially San José de Guanipa, is a city in Anzoátegui state forged in the heat of eastern Venezuela's oil industry. Capital of the Guanipa municipality, it takes its name from the cacique Guanipa, of the Kali'na people who inhabited these lands long before industrial progress arrived. El Tigrito grew shoulder to shoulder with its neighbor El Tigre, and today it is a vital connection point on the Guanipa mesa, where the warmth of its people blends with the drive of a hardworking region.
The Guanipa municipality, with its capital in El Tigrito, has a population of around 83,727 inhabitants and a surface area of roughly 792 km² (Wikipedia, "Municipio Guanipa", accessed 2026). Its economy revolves around the oil industry, commerce, and services, taking advantage of its strategic location in the south of the state and its proximity to the main hydrocarbon production centers in the east.
