Facing the Caribbean Sea, with the coastal mountain range guarding its back, Caraballeda holds one of the oldest histories on the Venezuelan coast. Founded in 1560 by Francisco Fajardo as Villa de El Collado and refounded by Diego de Losada, its name honors the Virgin of Carballeda, a devotion brought from Spain. Over time it became a resort and second-home destination for families from Caracas, and today its seafront neighborhoods —Los Corales, Tanaguarena, Caribe— still keep that spirit of a beach town and maritime gateway. Caraballeda is, in essence, a meeting point between the mountains, the city and the sea.
Caraballeda is part of La Guaira state, and its parish brings together several sectors that form a conurbation of roughly 67,683 inhabitants according to 2023 estimates.
